Most postcards that I get in the mail are quite boring. It seems like they are quickly and cheaply created with more thought on the budget than creativity. I hadn’t given it a whole lot of thought, though, until I was asked to design one at work last week. Initially, I approached it as a boring assignment. I was dragging my feet, when an artist friend said “Sam! Postcards are so cool!!” (she speaks with a lot of exclamation points). As I was searching for inspiration (see below), I realized how valuable the compact, mailable postcard is! Much like designing for mobile, there’s no room for fluff. You have to really hone your message on a postcard.
